JD.com Launches Consumer Humanoid Robot as Tesla Focuses on Commercial Applications
JD.com's shares edged higher as the Chinese e-commerce giant began selling the Noetix Robotic 'Bumi,' a child-sized humanoid robot priced at $1,400. Standing 94cm tall and weighing 12kg, Bumi is marketed for educational and family use, capable of walking and performing dance movements. The robot's presale coincided with China's Singles' Day and 'Double 12' shopping festivals, with 2,500 orders reportedly secured after its half-marathon performance.
While JD.com pushes into the consumer robotics market, U.S. firms like Tesla and Amazon remain focused on commercial applications. The divergence highlights China's aggressive positioning in consumer-facing AI hardware, contrasting with Western tech giants' enterprise-first approach.
